Components within bearings move independently and must be supported and aligned externally to track properly. Wave spring washers are used to compensate for sloppy tolerances among mismatched components. Their use leads to over pre-loaded bearing inner races, which are deflected inward setting off a chain reaction of misalignment drag and accelerated wear.
