Always a hot topic; bearing preload is a subject that deserves plenty of attention simply because it is so utterly misunderstood. We will get more technical in upcoming vids, but for most, all you need is this basic info to keep your setup running strong. Here's the vid that shows how we like to set up Shimano cranks for the best spin and durability: Click here for video
Alright guys I want to show you the difference that preload or appropriate preload makes you see how this is spinning right it's spinning pretty well right here this is about pre-loaded where it's supposed to be and then I'm going to just go ahead and get in here with my uh my little park tool church key here and I'm going to crank that down a little bit and then what you're going to notice is that all of a sudden we have some serious degradation of the spin so see that that right there compared to say I'm going to use my own method here that and then we just lock that down did you see the difference right there that's what the difference is okay because when you put too much preload on it you're pushing the inner races toward each other which takes the balls and rolls them and locks them into the in the outer race in a very bad position that is not good for spin
