We're going to change the bearing on this real quick now this is if you come in here and take a look this is a Pro-Tec crankset all right what that can't be introduced this when they came out with their echo crank because or Ekar crank I don't even know they came out with it because it's for their newer gravel bikes and it had this whole enhanced bearing seal system now those bearings are no longer on this crank because their rubbish and just throw them away um and um and replace them with decent bearings and now in this case um and that that would change it over to an Ultra-Torque style crank setup so the echo crank will then work in our bb infinite modules as I showed in the last video now I want to show you this this is this is something you want to know about the Campy bearing setup you see that's a 6mm bearing this is what's called a 6805 n see how it has a seal on one side no seal on this side this is a 6805 which is a standard seven millimeter wide bearing so it is the same 25mm diameter right for a 25mm shaft and then it's 37mm on the outer diameter but it's a narrower profile and the way they achieve that is they just take a 6805 bearing and they just grind a millimeter of it off and when they do that it removes the ability to put a seal on there so that being said let's take the bearings off here you need Specialized equipment to work on these Campy cranks. If you do not have a pulley system like this this happens to be from Park Tool. I favor this one, there's an excellent one from cyclists definitely going to set you back and you're going to need a bearing driver now the important thing about this one I want to show you is it has a circlip right the c-clip snap ring right there and it only has it on the drive side and not on it does not have it on the non-drive side so I'm just going to show you guys this really quick this is a horrible mistake that you should never want to try to do this you know on the spot because to try to get one of these things off you got to get it up underneath it just like that to pop it up all right and then you slowly want to pick it up just like that and get it off all right now what a lot of people do is they'll go in there and they will just and they will expand this thing out and then it will be no good okay so you notice how I barely loosened it so that it was very tight when I was pulling it up that's what you want or else you're going to wreck this because if you hyper extend it won't spring back all right and then it's as easy as sticking the puller down onto it right and go ahead and run these in because if you don't while you're trying to put pressure on it could possibly uh pop out and uh we don't want to scratch our crank arm or anything like that all right so guys I know some people are like man I'm just gonna get there I'm gonna get that screwdriver up under there and I'm going to pry but don't do that do not do that this is one of these deals where you're just going to have to you're going to have to bite the bullet and invest in the correct tools for the job that's 8mm and then we're gonna go ahead and it's gonna give you a little bit of resistance these are not terribly tight on there you heard it already pop loose just like that don't be afraid and then we'll go ahead and just lift this bearing right off of there just like that just like so all right and now once this is off you can uh replace it we're gonna put it right back on there right now uh sometimes this uh process could cause something called brunel brunelling uh which means that the uh the when you put the pressure on the inner on the outer race it's gonna kinda have almost like an accordion effect and pull against the balls and then the balls are going to pull against the inner race and the inner race is going to slowly start to raise up that can put like micro dimples in the races and then that's the brunelling that it makes it feel like it's made out of rocks so when you're taking bearings off whether you're driving them out driving them out almost always destroys them using this method sometimes can cause some damage so you should only be taking bearings off if you're replacing them okay and it's as easy as setting this back in there now you notice this driver is going to hit on the inner race okay it's not involving the outer race the reason for that is the inner race is what is engaging on this all right so and we're gonna have the seal has to face outward so you should be looking at you should be looking at balls you should be looking at balls now here you heard how that sounded all right there all right and uh to go ahead and put this back on all you want to do is uh just kind of get it worked on there just like that so it's starting to go on and then take that same tool and push it down until you hear it snap and it'll snap make sure it snaps into place and that is now all done it's really not that hard is it but you got to have the right tools or don't bother
