BBInfinite Hammer-Out Conventional PressFit BB Removal Method
Master Tool Set bottom bracket Removal video: We now have a conventional hammer-out method for safely removing one of our BBInfinite bottom bracket modules that I'm going to demonstrate for you right now. It's perfect for the installation and service of our PressFit bottom brackets, and all others on the market as well, but it's also exactly what's needed for the removal of any BBInfinite module. You can still use the old air hammer method---my personal favorite method---or a conventional hammer-out method that I'll demonstrate for you right now. The key is this strike face feature on the drive nut. When you hit this with a steel hammer it will mushroom a bit, but because of this taper it will not deform to the point that you won't be able to get a socket on it ever again. A brass hammer is recommended is you don't want to deform it at all, but once again it's designed as a sacrificial feature so you can feel free to just go for it with a steel hammer. Wear eye protection and hearing protection whenever you're swinging a hammer, no matter what. Lock these dies on like so and you'll have adequate stand off from the bike and a free hand to steady the tool. As the bottom bracket nears removal this free hand becomes very important if you're going it alone seeing that you don't want the whole assembly flying out suddenly and hitting the deck, which will cause damage to the module among other things. There is no reason for your PressFit bike to creak, crunch, crack, or make any noises at all. Unless the frame is cracked the bike will be quiet. Can a creaking and popping bottom bracket damage my frame? Yes, it can. A creaking bottom bracket means there's movement between the bb and the frame. The more a bottom bracket creaks the more it is moving. This movement over time can wallow out the frame bb shell openings, enlarging them and elongating them, making them more susceptible to creaking and making it impossible to fit new bottom brackets. Don't freak out, it takes a long time. We've seen only a handful of bikes go in the junk heap due to bottom bracket shell ovalization. Install a BBInfinite module to save your frame, and your sanity.
We now have a conventional hammer out method for our bottom brackets so you no longer need one of these all you need is one of these and you're going to need this the master toolset which we introduced to you guys a while back it's perfect for the installation and service of ours and all other press-fit bottom brackets on the market and I'm going to demonstrate the removal method using this right now. Now you're ready to remove the bottom bracket. All the hardware is gone from the bottom bracket and of course the creak is removed and all of our products are installed from the non-drive side. So you're going to be removing all of our products from the drive side because there's no flange. This is the way it comes out and you want to prep just by screwing one of the dies on about halfway down the shaft just like that and these dyes are two-sided and they are laser marked with which side is supposed to face depending on which bottom bracket so just read and follow the instructions and you'll be fine so now I'm just going to insert the removal tool into the bottom bracket and use the appropriate side of the die and just screw it down as well and what you want to do is you want to get full thread engagement and that means that the threads are just going to start poking out of the side of this time and then what you can do is you can back this side out because you can get the most shaft sticking out possible to give you a lot of standoff for your process it really makes things a lot easier because you're not swinging the hammer right up against the bike that makes me nervous and I like to not be nervous so just go ahead and give these a twist and really lock them on good now you're free to grab the frame to steady it as you're striking with the hammer now you can see it's starting to come out so every once in a while you're going to want to come in here and you're going to want to cinch these dyes up okay you don't need to get tool on it you just need to use your hand and it keeps it from being all wobbly now it's cleared partway so it's important for us at this juncture to go ahead and get in here and make sure that it is coming out of the hole nice and square give it a little tap now I'm going to come around check make sure it's square at this point it's getting close to coming out so you're definitely going to want to take one hand that free hand and grab the modules because you don't want the whole thing shooting out and hitting the ground it's going to damage the module and you're going to want to reuse it as they are 100% serviceable and reusable now it's going to about to come out so I want to maintain good control and just tap it and just pull the whole thing right out just like that so there you have it the master tool presses exactly what you need for the installation service and now for the conventional removal of the DBF and a bottom bracket module of your choice thanks for watching
